Japanese pop rock band spira spica is set to perform live on stage at SACRA Music Fes 2024 at Zepp KL on 3rd February, and we got the opportunity to interview the band about the meaning behind their name, animes they want to perform for, and the music industry.
spira spica is a Japanese pop rock band consisting of members Mikiha (Vocalist), Yuji Teraniji (Guitarist), and Masuda (Bassist). The band initially began their activities under the name Snowman 2013. They later changed to their current name in 2018 and made their major debut with the release of their single “Start Dash”, the second ending theme to Gundam Build Divers.

Meaning behind the Name
Many fans would not think too much about the band’s name Spira Spica. However, it turns out there’s a meaning behind the naming convention.
The Japanese pop rock band said that name derives from two Latin phrases, being “Spira Spera” which translates to “As long as I live, I can hold hope,” and “Spica” which refers to a bright blue first-magnitude star.
By combining the meanings of those two phrases, the band chose the name “Spira Spica” to convey the sentiment of “Guiding with the light of hope even on the darkest paths” and wishes to deliver this feeling through their music.
The Music Industry
Being part of the music industry for a few years now, we wondered if there had been any big changes that caught spira spica by surprise.
“After being in charge of an anime’s theme song, it was a significant change for me as it led to introducing spira spica to anime fans overseas. When I see fans who I haven’t met in person upload videos of themselves singing and performing spira spica songs on social media, It brings me constant joy while I’m clicking on the like button.”
Anime That They’d Like to Perform For
Considering the band’s previous works performing the Opening and Ending themes for various anime, there’s bound to be a specific anime title that the band would personally like to perform for.
Sure enough, the one anime that spira spica would like to perform the theme song to is the popular Doraemon series.
“It’s a beloved series that has given me dreams and hope, not only during my childhood but also as I’ve grown into an adult. It’s a cherished anime loved by people of all ages, both in Japan and internationally. Singing it in various language versions seems like a fun idea!”
Sun Sun Days
One of the most recent hits that spira spica had performed was the opening theme for the anime My-Dress Up Darling, ‘Sun Sun Days’. In most scenarios, anime music artists would often research the original source material for their performances.
For spira spica, what particularly resonated with them after reading the original work was the theme of “pursuing dreams and passions with unwavering determination”, which they had centred the lyrics around that idea.
“We want this song to provide a radiant energy that encourages listeners to pursue their aspirations and passions, guiding them with a shining power!”
Oversea Fans
Of course, it goes without saying that spira spica has gained quite a following across the world thanks to their catchy and upbeat songs, especially in Southeast Asia. We asked how they felt knowing that their music had resonated with so many people around the world.
They responded that they never expected their music career to take off in such a huge way and be loved by fans around the world.
“When I first started my music career, I never imagined that people around the world would hear my music. I just want to shake hands with every single one of them and tell them a personal ‘thank you’!!!”
“Thank you so much for discovering and liking our music. We are grateful and happy! And now, I hope you can feel the excitement of a spiral spica’s live show. I will do my best to work hard and continuously come to sing for you, so please look forward! When we meet, let’s enjoy and have the most fun together!”
We’d like to thank spira spica for taking the time to answer our question, and we cannot wait to see them perform live at Zepp KL on 3rd February.
